Water Polution
Water pollution has been a driving factor when it comes to the water war. With less and less of the freshwater being usable it makes people more and more dependent on outside providers for their water. There have been many sources of this water pollution, most if not all of them stem from human interaction. Water pollution is forcing people to rely more and more on privatized water which will make the companies stronger and stronger.
What Water Is Being Used For
Some of the main causes of this water pollution is the dumping of waste water, much like what occurs at the Point Loma sewage station. With roughly 7.2 billion human inhabitants of this planet, the treatment of waste and sewage water is a major priority to keep our waterways clean. Sometimes this is neglected though and it leaks into the worlds water supply and pollutes it making it unsuitable for use.
Another major cause of water pollution is through the production of other natural resources such as oil. With the technique of hydraulic fracturing or "fracking", this is the technique of drilling and then injecting fluid into the ground at high pressure to fracture shale rock and release the natural gas within. This process is very damaging to the environment though and leaves over many chemicals in the ground which in turn leaks into the underground water and from their spreads and pollutes the ground water all in that area. This makes the water very unsuitable for human use.
For example, a chemical known as 2-butoxyethanol (2-BE) is used in in fracking but, EPA scientists have said that this chemical poses more bad than good. Not only can this chemical be easily absorbed and rapidly distributed in humans following inhalation, ingestion, or dermal exposure. The major problem with this fluid is that it is known to cause hemolysis in humans.

These are just two of many ways the water around the world becomes polluted. This is an epidemic on the planets natural resources. Unless something is done about this, it could spell disaster for all humans around the world. Although Earth is 70% of water, there is very little for the common use of humans. About 2.5% of the worlds water supply is fresh water, with 70% of that being frozen in icecaps. This leaves about .7% of the worlds water supply as usable fresh water. There is very little water for us to use. With the population increasing exponentially and expecting to reach 8.9 billion by the year 2050, something must be done about this crisis or we shall soon find our water faucets giving us dust and disease instead of water.
